Garbage Disposal Repair and Installation

Troubleshooting garbage disposal issues can be frustrating and, when your appliance is out of order, it can put a halt on your day-to-day kitchen duties. No one wants to deal with these issues, and we can’t say we blame them! Luckily, folks in and around the Macomb County area can depend on Stadler Plumbing to find any issues with your system and get you back to where you need to be.

Check For A Jam

First things first, you can always check for a jam on your own. This is a simple (and fairly common) fix that you can do without having to call us in. To do this, turn off your garbage disposal completely, then shine a flashlight into the opening. Pliers work great to pull out anything that may be blocking up your blades. Just remember to never stick your fingers down the disposal!

Still Not Working?

If your garbage disposal is in need of some professional care, then count on us! The staff at Stadler Plumber is licensed and trained to get your system back in working order. You’ll be back to your regular routine in no time! And trust us when we say we’ve seen it all… Give us a call and we’ll get to your home as soon as possible.

And if worse comes to worst, we can install a new disposal, no problem. Let us take a look, so we can get you up and running again!

Avoiding Misuse

Once your garbage disposal is back up and running (or replaced) then it’s time to ensure you don’t face similar issues anytime soon. These units are known for their strength and durability, but that doesn’t mean they can’t face wear and tear. There are a number of things that should never be put down your garbage disposal. Doing so will likely lead to more repair costs down the line. Check out our list below.

  • Grease: Greasy/oily substances will coat your blades and make them less effective at breaking down food (thus inviting clogs). It could also easily solidify which, again, will cause buildup and blockages to form. Lastly, it will eventually decay and produce some nasty odors in your kitchen.
  • Stringy/fibrous foods: Foods like celery, asparagus, lettuce, potato peels, and similar items offer a texture that doesn’t respond well to your disposal. They tend to get wrapped around the teeth, halting your system’s efficiency.
  • Egg shells, coffee grounds, beans, and more: Pasta, rice, potatoes, and everything else previously listed are just some of the many things that can cause issues. Educate yourself, ask your plumber, and obviously avoid tossing any non-food items down your unit.
